Back in the good ol' days I taught heated power yoga (and yoga sculpt because... muscles) and quite literally lived at CorePower Yoga in Boulder, Colorado. It was my friend group, my work group, my "help me figure this out" group. I knew it was special, but when I got to NYC I realized how special... and I've been missing it terribly every since.
When I moved to NYC there were dozens of yoga studios that I tried, but none did the trick. I was amazed that in NEW YORK CITY there weren't any heated vinyasa studios. Are you kidding me? Ok, well there was one (Pure Yoga). It was a beautiful studio with some great teachers but it was 45 minutes away from my digs in the lower east side. Nope. Not going to make it.
Along with many other "OH HELL YES" moments that happened when I moved to LA, heated vinyasa was one of them. There are quite a few gems I've found thus far, and I fully intend to continue the exploration. But first up, my favorite right now... Sweat Yoga.
This is a heated studio that turns the lights down low, the music up loud (like, really loud) and let's you move to your intuition within. They have set up the structure so that they have the teacher guide you through each series (A, B and C) and release you off on your own to do the damn thing. No talking, no stopping. Just you, the music, the sweat, and some lavender scented mist falling down from the ceiling. I shit you not. That is next level.
It's one of those places you go into with a (figurative) backpack full of your days' crap, bend over, unzip it and let it all fall out. There is no doubt you'll leave there feeling better than when you walked in.
(Oh... and sidenote. If you are in NYC and I totally crushed your heated yoga mojo... check out Lyon's Den Power Yoga. It's a Baptiste studio in Tribeca that has a serious lioness leading the charge (Bethany). I discovered it just before moving to LA and would die to have one on the west coast. Psst... do it!)
