Strong is the new sexy, ammiright? (as long as you don't look like a man-chick). And unless fitness is your job, nobody has hours to spend at the gym. If you want a fast, effective, down right kick-your-ass-into-shape workout, I highly recommend circuit training.
It seems that most people either love of loathe cardio... and the people that loathe it (generally) enjoy weight training. The reality is we all need a little of both (balance - remember?!). Nobody wants to suffer through a workout. Now you can just suffer through half of it. And thanks to the many benefits of high intensity interval training (HIIT) you'll kick your fat burning furnace into high gear and continue to torch calories even post workout. It's a win win... except for convincing yourself to get there, of course.
At Circuit Works in Santa Monica they have such a good setup. It's a small, intimate (non-chain) atmosphere that connects you to heart rate monitors to track your progress. They have skilled teachers that genuinely help each student to set up safely. It's like Barry's Bootcamp without the ego. Oh, and the men... the men that go there are dynamite.
I recommend checking out Raphael's class. He's got some spice to him and keeps you motivated and (half) smiling through it. He's the type that yells at you with a wink. Somehow you just say "yes" and keep going.
AND Dogtown Coffee is their neighbor which means you can get Santa Monica's finest flat white before your sweat sesh.
