Unless you're living under a deep dark media-exiled hole you know that coconut oil is EVERYTHING. There are a multitude of health benefits that include skin care, hair care, improved digestion and immunity against a host of infections and diseases. You can put coconut on, in and all around that beautiful body of yours. It's pure magic.
I want to clue you into one use of coconut oil that you may not know about if you're new to the wellness space. It's called oil pulling.
... and it's a game changer.
Oil pulling has been used for decades as a ancient ayurvedic technique. If you put a small amount of coconut oil in your mouth every morning and swish it around (like mouthwash) you are already en route to clearer skin, improved oral hygiene, and whiter teeth among a slew of other health benefits. When you swish around, the antibacterial properties of the oil pull out bacteria and fungus alleviating inflammation, congestion and even allergies. It squelches bad breath, bleeding gums, cavities, gingivitis, plaque and sensitive teeth and moistens the mouth lips and throat. Remember how I said it was magic? Proof right there in the oil-pudding.
- Measure 1-2 teaspoons of oil and put it in your mouth. (I use coconut oil but you can also try sesame and sunflower oils).
- Swish, baby swish.
- Spit out the liquid in the garbage. The contaminated oil can clog pipes. Ain't no body got time for that.
- Rinse your mouth with water... and if you want to get fancy add some apple cider vinegar to it to ensure all oil is out of your mouth.
- Brush your teeth.
- Get on with yo bad selves.
Remember friends, when we take care of ourselves deeply we show up in the world in a whole new way. This isn't just about whiter teeth. This is about making self care a daily responsibility. You have nothing to give if you haven't given to yourself.
