As I work through my year in school, I will be sharing my learnings with you to live a happier, healthier, more balanced life. If you are following my journey, you are likely already interested in becoming a better version of yourself, and you likely already know many of these. Bear with me. I’m just here to remind you, give you a couple tips and reignite that oh-so-delicious healthy feeling we easily slip away from.
Step 1: Drink more water.
Plain and simple. You need to. I know it. None of us (myself included) drink as much water as our body actually needs. You are supposed to be drinking half of your body weight in ounces. Oof. That can seem like a feat on a busy day running from meeting to meeting with a computer in hand. Who can carry all that anyways?
No more excuses.
Water will make you glow.
You know when you see someone and they just have a radiance about them? They have clear eyes and plump, beautiful skin? It’s water, my friends. Lots and lots of plain ol’ water. Drinking adequate amounts flushes out the toxins in your body (and skin) and gives you that bright radiance you deserve.
Water helps control your calories.
If you are fueling up on what your body actually needs (water) you are less likely to be reaching for what your body doesn’t need (that mid-day candy bar) because your levels will be in check, your body will feel sustained and you’ll effortlessly be making healthier choices. Most of the time when you go to the fridge with the “what do I want?” feeling… you just need water. If your body told you that you were hungry and in need of calories, you would know it - assuming your body is in balance. When it’s not you can’t tell the difference.
Water keeps your digestion in check.
Well, duh. You drink more water you pee more. But poop, my friends. That is where the goods are. You need to be giving your intestines enough fuel to push everything through your body. You are reducing the burden of your kidneys and liver to push everything out. Help them along! They need it. And we all need to poop. You know you like poop talk.
Bottoms up! There are countless benefits to what water can do for your body. And it’s just water. It’s not some crazy superfood only found in rare parts of the country that is expensive and hard to find. It’s water! I encourage you to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, before each meal, and before you go to bed. Carry a water bottle with you at work and sip, sip, sip away. When things get boring add some fruit to it! I love to do cucumber, strawberry and mint concoctions. Another favorite is just a plain ol’ lemon. So easy, right? You’ll be guzzling away without working for it. Give it a try.
