It's easy to be busy. It's easy to constantly seek external stimulus. You go from this activity to that one, this relationship to that one, this job to that one. It's understandable that you want to do everything. Be everywhere. Meet everyone. You become so busy that you aren't allowing yourself to soak in what you actually need.
It's much more difficult to go easy. Go easy on yourself and where you're focusing your energy. It's hard to carve out time to recharge. Stepping away from the excitement to focus on self care is a struggle. But it's the moments of going easy that allow you to connect to your core. You remember (or at times discover) what it is that truly matters uniquely to you.
When I first moved to LA, all I wanted to do was go out. See all my friends. Meet all the people. Be all the places. Do all the things. But damn, that's exhausting. I realized that I was running away from the major life change that had just occurred (moving cross country and leaving a relationship on a days notice). I was so damn excited to finally be on the west coast that I was overextending myself in my enthusiasm.
But what I really needed was to go easy. I needed 8 hours of sleep a night. I needed early mornings and mellow sunsets. I needed my pup, my toes in the sand and my journal at my fingertips. I needed to feel myself again. Detoxing from New York has never felt so good.
As I've come into this new chapter of my life, I realize what a beautiful ride it is. I am incredibly thankful for all the fortunes, and more importantly, misfortunes that have come my way. They have shaped me, guided me, and uniquely built me.
As life continues to ebb and flow, it's important not to try to control it. It's important to let nature take its course. It's important to tread lightly on yourself. You may not always understand what is coming your way, but I encourage you to trust it. Trust that whatever is in front of you is there for a reason. It's there to show you a new perspective, a new lesson, a new understanding. Life does not happen by accident. It's your responsibility to notice it.
Be intentional with your life. Every thought has an action. Make them positive. Keep your mind primed and open. Strengthen your intuition. Remain aware and conscious of what is going on around you.
You already have everything you need.
